Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) and the state legislature to pass public financing legislation to “restore fairness and integrity to New York’s political process.”

"New York Leadership for Accountable Government" launches
A bipartisan group of business, civic, and philanthropic leaders launched a new campaign today "to advocate for comprehensive reform to the way elections are funded in the Empire State in order to restore fairness and integrity to New York’s political process."
In his State of the State address in January, Gov. Cuomo urged the legislature to pass public financing legislation.

People Power Beat Back Private Prison's Big Bucks in Florida
The Florida Senate defeated a measure yesterday that would have privatized the state’s prisons, a plan that has faced accusations that Gov. Rick Scott’s desire to hand over the prisons to private companies was a favor to an industry that has been generous in its campaign contributions.
