Eric Alterman's latest for the The Nation is all about Gov. Andrew Cuomo. It ends: "Campaign finance advocates insist—and Cuomo agrees—that a victory for publicly financed elections in New York State has the potential to be a watershed for the issue nationally. This proved true for marriage equality, and given the state’s center as the nation’s financial capital, the reverberations this time around may prove no less volcanic.

The bill passed through the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. As the lead sponsor of the bill, Hawaii State Rep. Della Au Belatti (D) has been working hard to get it to the governor's desk.

Worth noting: The Hawaii Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing today at 4:05 pm eastern time on HB1481, a bill to create a public financing system for the state legislature. As we reported last week, the bill has already passed the House.

Good news in New Mexico! Thanks to the hard work of Common Cause New Mexico, the state legislature has passed legislation to update the public financing system for Public Regulation Commission and judicial elections. The legislation is a response to the Supreme Court's Arizona Free Enterprise System and adds a matching fund system similar to the Fair Elections Now Act proposed in Congress.

On Wednesday, the New Mexico State House followed the Senate, by a vote of 68-0, in passing legislation to update the state’s public financing system for judicial and Public Regulation Commission elections. It now heads to Governor Suzanna Martinez’s (R) desk for a final signature.
