An article today in the Portland Press Herald discusses the introduction of the Fair Elections Now Act, co-sponsored by Maine Congresswomen Chellie Pingree (D-Maine). It’s no surprise that Maine House Speaker Hannah Pingree (D-New Haven) became involved in politics. Her mother, Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine), who represents Maine’s 1st congressional district, was at one time the state’s Senate Majority Leader. The family political tradition doesn’t stop at getting elected. It also involves how you get elected in Maine. At the age of 26, newly elected Maine State Rep. Elsie Flemings (D- Bar Harbor) has a long history of public interest work. Rep. Flemings has long been dedicated to public service, serving as a fair trade organizer for the congressional campaign of Rep. Zack Space (D-Ohio), and later as his congressional aide once he was elected.
