Public Campaign State on Yarmuth/Jones Constitutional Amendment
Washington, D.C.—Public Campaign released the following statement in response to bipartisan legislation introduced today by Reps. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.) and Walter Jones (R-N.C.) that would overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision and provide a system of publicly financed elections for federal candidates.
Statement from Nick Nyhart, Public Campaign President and CEO:
“Public Campaign supports the efforts of Congressmen Yarmuth and Jones to more effectively curb the outsized role of big campaign contributors. Congress should enhance the role of small donors and enact a public financing system to ensure that its policies benefit all Americans and not just big campaign contributors. Through the introduction of this Constitutional amendment and their support for the Fair Elections Now Act, Congressmen Yarmuth and Jones should be commended for their leadership in supporting policies that would make our democracy work for the 99%.”
