Campaign Money Watch: Ralph Reed Radio Ad

Submitted by Rick Bielke on Wed, 05/17/2006 - 18:00

RADIO AD: RALPH REED TOOK $4 MILLION IN GAMBLING MONEY TO FIGHT ... GAMBLING?!

Citizen watchdog group begins campaign to hold Reed accountable for his connections to Abramoff lobbying scandal

Campaign Money Watch, a citizen watchdog group, began airing a 60-second advertisement on several stations in Georgia today as the first part of an effort to educate Georgia voters about Ralph Reed's connections to gambling interests, the Jack Abramoff scandal, and other special interest lobbyists and donors.

"Say, what would you think about someone who said ‘gambling is a cancer. It is stealing food from the mouths of children,' and then turned around and took a $4 million job from casinos?" begins the radio ad. "That's what Ralph Reed did. And that's not all."

The ad goes on to describe Reed's connection to convicted Washington super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff and the use of a Christian group as a front for the gambling funds. It can be heard at www.campaignmoney.org.

Campaign Money Watch's director David Donnelly said that Georgia voters should consider Reed's role in one of the nation's most significant corruption scandals in history.

"Ralph Reed aided and abetted Jack Abramoff's lobbying clients, and he cashed in his principles for a fortune in fees and payments from gambling money," said David Donnelly. "Georgians don't think it's a sin to make an honest buck. But everyone knows the difference between right and wrong when it comes to taking $4 million from gambling interests and not telling the truth about it."

Campaign Money Watch holds politicians accountable for doing favors for their financial backers, and supports comprehensive reform of the nation's campaign finance laws. It is a project of Public Campaign Action Fund.
