Watchdog groups run ads in Gerlach's PA-06, Ney's OH-18 and Reynolds' NY-26
Washington, DC - Public Campaign Action Fund and American Family Voices today began running three different advertisements in Congressional districts that are represented by close allies of indicted, disgraced former Majority Leader Tom DeLay (TX-22). The ads, titled "Indicted," target Reps. Jim Gerlach (PA-06), Bob Ney (OH-18) and Tom Reynolds (NY-26).
"Tom DeLay? indicted for money laundering, he's the face of big-money, political corruption," the Gerlach ad begins. "And DeLay's corruption is spreading. DeLay's PAC sent Congressman Jim Gerlach $30,000 dollars. Big Oil and Gas interests gave $52,086 more. And then, Congressman Gerlach voted with Delay and big oil."
"What did you get?" the announcer asks, as the image of a gas pump spins out of control.
The 30-second spots can be seen at http://www.cleanupcongress.org/clips/gerlach_ad.
"As Tom DeLay appears in a courtroom on proceedings connected to felony charges of money laundering, and as big oil companies are posting record profits, we are asking these members of Congress to do something to clean up Congress and address issues people care about," said David Donnelly, National Campaigns Director for Public Campaign Action Fund. "Gas prices have gone through the roof, and we are heading into winter. These members of Congress should show that they care more about their constituents needs than the profits of their contributors."
The ads are running on Fox News Channel, Comedy Central, CNN and MSNBC in the Philadelphia media market in Rep. Gerlach's district, the Buffalo and Rochester media markets in Rep. Reynolds' district, and the Charleston-Huntington, Columbus, Cleveland and Zanesville media markets in Rep. Ney's district. The Ney ad is also running on NBC affiliate WHIZ in Zanesville.
"Who do these congressmen represent?" asked Mike Lux, president of American Family Voices. "We've seen very little proof that they have the best interests of their constituents at heart.† They appear to be more focused on their buddy Tom DeLay and making sure oil corporations get the profits they want by handing them bills written by oil industry insiders."
