Keep up the good work! I hope this bill goes through. We can't trust our politicians to tackle the other important problems until we know they are working for us, and not corporations.

I totally agree with James Anderson, this is a government bailout of, NOT the people, but the industry. Why is the money not going to the people? It proves that this is a government of, by and for the industries, but it should and MUST be of, by and for the PEOPLE!!

No words can express the deep disgust which I feel for Congress and the President for undermining the Constitution and selling out the American People to special interest groups.

I intend to support electoral reform as the fundamental route to get America back.

I agree as I do think that mandatory public financing would certainly make things a whole lot "cleaner".

when corporations give huge "donations" to political candidates, that candidate is going to owe somebody something down the line... it's a broken system, but what are you gonna do?

I really love that Obama "muddy water" metaphor. I really think mandatory public financing would go a long way toward cleaning things up - along with full transparency. These interests want to spend money to influence so where will it go? More ad campaigns?

I have wondered for years why, if prostitution is illegal, it is rampant in the halls of congress?

I actually have more faith in a hooker!
At least you know, up front, how much it will cost, it's only one person at a time they screw, and one is usually smiling......not that I know first hand.

With our Washington CongressHookers, we never know the true cost, they are screwing millions at a time, and we AIN'T SMILING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TIME FOR A MILLION HOOKER MARCH ON WASHINGTON!!!!

Why not use campaign spending limits to solve this problem?

The best way to stop campaign contributions from having a negative influence on the governing-decisions our politicians make is to adequately limit campaign spending. That way the campaigns won't need campaign funding enough to be negatively influenced by it that much. I'm not saying there isn't a role for public financing to play. But in the short run, campaign spending limits is more important.

Ilinois Clean Election Act - HB 1640

Dear Katie,

Are you aware of HB 1640 submitted by State Representative Mike Boland on 2-22-07.

It is modeled after Maine's successful legislation.

Although I lean towards the conservative side of things I still believe in right and wrong. I don't believe in utilities gouging any more than in gas gouging. It is high time we get congressmen and women to address this problem. Politics have always been given a bad rap due to a few in the system who believe themselves above the law. We need to blow the whistle on these people and take back the America as it was meant to be. With life and liberty for all.

Seed money from PACs

Under the FENA can candidates who want to qualify as "Fair Elections" candidates accept contributions from PACs or not? The below text from page one of publicampaign.org says no. But a breakdown on page two indicates that they WOULD be able to accept up to $100 from PACs. What's the deal?

Before declaring an intent to run and qualifying as a "Fair Elections" candidate, a U.S. Senate candidate may solicit, accept, and spend seed money contributions of up to $100 from individual contributors (but not from PACs or other special interests) living in any state.
