Missed this one on the day it was published but I was glad to see it today. Jack Miller of Indianapolis wrote a great letter to the editor in support of the Fair Elections Now Act, public financing of elections, and the real "change" we've been hearing so much about this presidential race. Publicly financed elections are better

So much of the narrative in the presidential campaigns is focused on “change.” But how much real change can we hope for as long as elite special interests continue to provide funding for election campaigns for Congress and the president? Nearly every issue is determined by and for the interests of the private campaign contributors. Meanwhile, public needs are neglected so bridges collapse, schools close and tainted food finds its way to our tables.


We need desperately to restore our citizens’ trust in government. In Congress, the Fair Elections Now Act (publicly funded congressional election campaigns) is a real move toward democratic change in Washington that we’d all like to see.


Publicly financed elections provide a practical, proven way to put campaigns in the hands of voters, not big campaign donors.
