Who Will Grill Gina McCarthy Today?

Submitted by Kurt Walters on Thu, 04/11/2013 - 14:18

As Gina McCarthy prepares to take the floor for her hearing before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee today, many media outlets have been reporting that she is likely to face heavy criticism from opponents of the EPA, using the hearing on her nomination as what a representative of the Natural Resources Defense Council called “an unfortunate proxy for criticism of EPA by the agency's most virulent critics.”

As we watch the hearing, either on the webcast or on C-SPAN, it will be interesting to compare the senators speaking out most critically of McCarthy or the EPA and those who have gotten the most money from coal, oil, and other fossil fuel industry interests. Here’s a handy chart showing what each member of the committee has received in the past six years from the energy sector, based on Public Campaign analysis of data from the Center for Responsive Politics.
