Earlier this month, the Hawaii House passed HB 1481, a bill that would create a small donor public financing system for state legislative races. The bill passed through the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. As the lead sponsor of the bill, Hawaii State Rep. Della Au Belatti (D) has been working hard to get it to the governor's desk. I spoke with her earlier this week about the bill, the importance of raising the voices of everyday people in the political process, and what Hawaiians can do to get involved.
