Texas Approves Text Message Campaign Contributions

Submitted by Aaron Scherb on Fri, 02/01/2013 - 17:19

Yesterday afternoon, the Texas Ethics Commission approved a request to allow campaign contributions via text message.  Public Campaign supports political text message donations as a way to enhance the voices of everyday Americans and to help get more people engaged in the democratic process.

Texas joins California and Maryland as the other states currently allowing this form of small donation. In June 2012 with Public Campaign's support, the Federal Election Commission approved political text message donations for federal candidates.  The Obama and Romney campaigns collectively raised about $1.5 million in campaign contributions via text message in the several months before the election.
