Pelosi Commits to Campaign Finance Reform on ABC's "This Week"

Submitted by Kurt Walters on Mon, 05/21/2012 - 15:37

This Sunday, May 20, 2012, Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif. 23) sat down with George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week” and reaffirmed her commitment to campaign finance reform.

Overturning Citizens United and enacting Fair Elections-style public financing would reduce the undue influence of special interests and the extraordinarily wealthy and restore the voices of average Americans in our elections. And, as Pelosi mentions, Fair Elections could increase the diversity of candidates running for and winning office, making the make up of Congress look a lot more like the country it is supposed to represent.

“What I would like to see in this election is a recognition that we must reduce the role of money in campaigns. So we want to win, move on to public financing of campaigns, overturn the Supreme Court decision on Citizens United, and -- and, again, when we reduce the role of money in campaigns and increase the civility, we'll elect more women to Congress.”
-- Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)
