Front Page Fair Elections Story in New York Times!

Submitted by John Papagiannis on Thu, 04/12/2012 - 14:39

The New York Times has a front page story today on the effort to bring Fair Elections to New York State legislative races. The story focuses on "an unusual and well-heeled coalition, trying to tap public anger over the flood of money into politics, (who are) pushing to enact a public financing system for elections in New York State."

A great quote in the New York Times piece: “With this effort, you have people who are big donors, who are involved with the campaign system, saying: ‘You know what, this doesn’t make sense. This isn’t what democracy is supposed to be about,’ ” said David L. Calone, a venture capitalist based on Long Island who has raised money for Democratic candidates.

This kind of exposure for the Fair Elections for New York campaign is very big news. It's also critical to note that beyond NY LEAD, a broad and diverse coalition of statewide, as well as national groups, are heavily involved in fighting for reform in Albany, whose corrupt reputation is well known.

This is important. A win in New York could serve as a game-changer for reform efforts in Washington, D.C. and across the country. To find out more about the campaign, get updates, and for ways you can get involved, click here.
