Submitted by John Papagiannis on Wed, 03/21/2012 - 15:26

First off, the documentary Priceless will be on many local PBS station starting in April. Click here to see when it will be on in your area. If you want to host a house party, let me know! (It's really good, you should plan on watching it.)

Also, FEC reports came out yesterday for presidential campaigns, super PACs, and assorted other committees. I've probably missed some stuff, so feel free to send over anything you think I should include tomorrow!

February Fundraising
LA Times: Billionaires keep pouring millions into super PACs
Predatory lenders seem to have found their guy: Mitt Romney. David Donnelly: "These payday lenders are the real vulture capitalists in communities around the country, and now they're investing in a candidate they believe will get rid of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau." More here, USA Today, and PCAF released a statement with PICO National Network on the payday lender money.

Politico: Obama rakes in money from Hollywood
"The Obama Victory Fund, the joint committee of the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee, listed several donations from A-list actors in its latest campaign finance report filed Tuesday."

NYT: Super PACs supply millions as GOP race drains field
"The Republican presidential candidates are running low on campaign cash as expensive primaries in states like Maryland, New York and Pennsylvania loom, leaving them increasingly reliant on a small group of supporters funneling millions of dollars in unlimited contributions into super PACs."

Politico: Pro-Obama super PAC struggles
"Even after desperate calls from Democrats, only a handful of donors cut big checks to the pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA last month, according to federal reports filed Tuesday."

PCAF Blog: Ken "Insufficient Influence" Griffin gives $100k to Romney super PAC
Billionaire hedge fund manager Ken Griffin, who recently said that the rich have "insufficient influence" on our political process, donated $100,000 to Romney's super PAC in February. Insufficient indeed.

NYT: Reports show Adelson's enduring support of Gingrich
Bringing the total of just Shel and Miriam to the Gingrich super PAC to $15M: "Sheldon Adelson, the Las Vegas casino mogul, and his family gave another $5.5 million to the “super PAC” backing Mr. Gingrich in February, almost single-handedly financing his continuing bid for the White House." Also! The super PAC got $100,000 from a Hawaiian princess. Really!

WaPo: Mitt Romney suppporters rally in February, donationg $18 million
"Mitt Romney’s supporters rallied in February to shore up his struggling presidential bid, giving a combined $18 million to his campaign and to a super PAC that is paying for a barrage of ads attacking his Republican challengers, according to new disclosures filed Tuesday."

Politico: Pro-Ron Paul super PAC Endorse Liberty sees fundraising slide
"Endorse Liberty, the main super PAC supporting Rep. Ron Paul’s presidential candidacy, isn’t looking too super anymore."

WaPo: Gingrich, Santorum super PACs low on funds
"The top super PACs supporting Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich appear to be low on funds."

Huffington Post: Rick Santorum raises more in February than he previously raised in total
"In February, Santorum, who was not expected to still be in the race at this point, raised $9 million, second only to Mitt Romney in the Republican primary field. That is $3 million more than he raised for his entire campaign prior to entering February."

Politico: Rick Santorum super PAC stretched thin
"The super PAC backing Rick Santorum’s presidential bid pulled in $2.9 million in February, helping his campaign survive in the prolonged primary war against the deep-pocketed frontrunner."

Congress/2012

Demos: Big money in politics makes US economy "fundamentally unsound"

Politico: Jim DeMint donation pits him against GOP veterans
"After the 2010 elections, South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint promised fellow Republicans he wouldn’t try to knock off GOP senators in their primaries this cycle. So when DeMint transferred $500,000 to the Club for Growth, the conservative group that has made veteran Sen. Dick Lugar (R-Ind.) its top target, top Republicans on Capitol Hill were furious, the latest sign of a party fracturing amid a contentious primary season."

CRP: Blue Dog fundraising climbs as coalition fights extinction
"The Blue Dog Coalition continues to shrink, a casualty of the disappearing center in American politics. But the good news for this group of moderate Democrats is that almost all of their remaining members have posted fundraising numbers that beat what they'd raised at the same point in the last election cycle."

Rockford Register Star: Adam Kinzinger beats Don Manzullo in 16th District race
10-term Congressman Don Manzullo lost to freshman Adam Kinzinger in the Republican primary yesterday (forced together due to redistricting). Manzullo said of his loss: "The issue isn’t me. It’s super PACs coming in and trying to win races."

NaJo: Loebsack vows "never to become a lobbyist
"Democratic Rep. Dave Loebsack of Iowa has put into writing, in a press release no less, what he describes as a 'vow' that he will never become a lobbyist. As he sees it, 'far too often people come to Washington just to cash in.' He won't be among them, insists Loebsack."
