Supercommittee Member Max Baucus Cancels Fundraiser

Submitted by Adam Smith on Fri, 09/02/2011 - 13:44

Buried in an article on lobbyists and the Congressional “supercommittee” created to reduce the deficit is this nugget:

Senator Max Baucus, a Democratic committee member, had been due to attend a fund-raiser on October 4 hosted by the National Association of Realtors. But a spokeswoman said on Monday the event had been canceled.

The article doesn’t mention why the event was canceled, but maybe it’s a sign that Sen. Baucus knows that raising money from the same folks looking to influence the results of the supercommittee won’t look good to people back home in Montana.

The other members with fundraisers scheduled over the next few months should do the same. With $20.4 million in the bank, they can afford to take a few months off.
