The Chronicles of Money, Politics, and the Roberts Court 5's Love Affair with Corporations and Big Money Interests

Submitted by John Papagiannis on Fri, 07/01/2011 - 16:38

Here's a round-up of Public Campaign and Public Campaign Action Fund's work for the week of June 27-July 1, 2011.

  • One billllllllion dollars? (Insert Dr. Evil--from Austin Powers--voice here) From today, Politico reports on President Obama's likely record-breaking fundraising for the 2012 election, including his end-of-quarter push for campaign cash, with quotes from Public Campaign President & CEO, Nick Nyhart.
  • Roberts Court 5 to Big Money: "We heart you!" The Washington Post's E.J. Dionne calls a spade a spade by dissecting the Roberts Court 5's consistency in ruling in favor of corporations and big money interests. Public Campaign Action Fund blogged on the story.
  • The Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on Wednesday: "Barriers to Justice and Accountability: How the Supreme Court's Recent Rulings Will Affect Corporate Behavior.” Public Campaign was there. Here's a wrap-up.
  • Stories of public financing's demise have been greatly exagerrated. The Roberts Court decision in McComish v. Bennett was the story of the week from our view. Public Campaign compiled the editorial coverage so far.
  • Sen. Crapo attends tax lobbyist campaign money dump. Public Campaign Action Fund crunched some numbers and posted on the fundraiser with a major D.C. lobby shop.
  • Fare thee well, Blago! Former Governor, and Elvis impersonator, Rod Blagojevich, was convicted on 17 of 20 counts of corruption on Monday. Naturally, Public Campaign Action Fund got in on the action with this blog post and this statement.
  • All McComish, all the time. On the day of the decision (Monday), Public Campaign was very busy staying on top of all the news coverage, press releases, and statements from the Beltway and all over the country. All of the pertinent coverage can be found here.

Keep up with all the latest news on money-in-politics. Here's a link to our daily clips.
