Public Campaign and Public Campaign Action Fund were hard at work this week putting out a variety of memos, statements, and reports. Here's a round up of our recent work:
- We put together a background memo on Rep. Paul Ryan's (R-Wisc.) budget defense - highlighting the donations he's received from the insurance industry and Big Oil, while he tries to cut Medicare and keep subsidies for large oil companies.
- We highlighted Wall Street's April donations - presenting a breakdown of the American Bankers Association PAC money distributed to members of the House Financial Services Committee.
- We joined Media Matters and the Nathan Cummings Foundation in criticizing News Corps.' new policy of disclosure on corporate political activity for not going far enough.
- We put out a vote correlation with Oil Change International on this week's Senate vote to end oil subsidies.
- We put out a joint statement with the Energy Action Coalition on Sen. Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) gift to his Big Oil donors - new legislation that would dramatically expand offshore drilling.
- We highlighted how Sen. Dick Lugar (R-Ind.) raked in the campaign cash by holding an energy industry fundraiser right before the vote to end oil subsidies.
- We looked at Sen. John Barrasso's (R-Wyo.) packed fundraising schedule with oil and gas interests and health interests.
- We analyzed the FEC filings of Big Oil PACs - and saw how those contributions yielded results with U.S. House members.
- We commented on the recent controversy surrounding the IRS enforcement of the gift tax policy.
- Public Campaign President Nick Nyhart's comments were featured in The Nation's recent article on ending the secret money arms race.
- Public Campaign Action Fund National Campaigns Director David Donnelly was quoted on how newcomers to Congress are raising campaign cash differently.
- And as always, we provided a daily round up of campaign finance news clips.
