Watch: The Movement for the People Summit!
On Friday, a coalition of progressive groups gathered to speak about the issues of money in politics and corporate power. The “Movement for the People” Summit, held on the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United v. FEC ruling, had many notable members of the campaign finance reform community discuss the implications of this decision, including Public Campaign Communications Director Adam Smith. All of the panelists were asked about responses to the Citizens United decision. “This is a lot about power – about who has power and who doesn’t – and we believe that we need to stop talking as much about getting the big money out and start talking more about bringing the voters back in,” Smith noted. “The Fair Elections Now bill…incentivizes reaching out to small donors.” Click here to watch the Summit and listen to Adam Smith speak about Citizens United and the Fair Elections Now Act (starting around 1:20:37).
