We Need More Citizen Participation
In a recent article in the Boston Review, David Donnelly, campaign manager for the Campaign for Fair Elections, notes that it's time to focus on creating a more participatory democracy - placing emphasis on making voters a key part of the process."Reformers need to shift away from ‘getting big money out of campaigns’ and toward ‘getting the people back in.’"...Against a big problem like the corruption of our democratic institutions, we cannot rely solely on a new regime of laws to shape the flow of money. We must attract more citizen participation and ensure that the voices of average people are heard.
