Rein in the Corporations

Submitted by Monica Rober on Fri, 08/27/2010 - 15:31

Charlie Cooper, a member of the Balitmore MoveOn Council, argues that corporate influence has put a stranglehold on the media, elections, and policy-making. He suggests passage of the Fair Elections Now Act and lobbying reform to alleviate these woes."Corporate power thwarts nearly every aspect of these reforms and is a more important factor in our woes than those discussed ad nauseam by media pundits and Republican or Democratic partisans."...Historically, government created corporations for the public good — to allow more efficient flows of capital and to serve public purposes. In practice, corporations have used campaign spending, lobbying, media and think tanks to extend their grip on our society to the point where progress is stymied on nearly all fronts."Click here to read the full article in The Baltimore Sun.
