Looking For Outside Money
Public Campaign President Nick Nyhart discusses how GOP hopefuls in Connecticut are looking for outside money in The Hartford Courant. "The national parties can donate only $5,000 directly to each campaign but can spend unlimited amounts on their own advertising, said Nick Nyhart, co-founder and director of the Washington, D.C.-based Public Campaign, a nonprofit group advocating for campaign finance reform. "Groups such as Karl Rove's American Crossroads also have millions to spend on similar ads, Nyhart said. There are no limits on how much money people, or even corporations, can donate to these groups. "The national parties target seats that they see as "in play," Nyhart said. "The top 30 races may not be in Connecticut, but if you expand the map to the next 50, several Connecticut districts are probably in there." Click here for the full article.
