Government Should Belong to the People

Submitted by Monica Rober on Tue, 08/03/2010 - 14:16

Mike Deans of Common Cause Minnesota assails the current campaign finance system in which millions of dollars are flowing into candidate's campaign coffers, much of it from corporate or special interests. He argues that it's time for the Fair Elections Now Act so that we can return to a government of, by, and for the people, not of, bought, and paid for by special interests. "In our political system, a candidate’s viability is measured solely by their ability to raise large sums of campaign cash — much of which comes from corporations and special interests — rather than the quality of their ideas or support from their district. "...We need to put elections back in the hands of ordinary Americans. Our leaders should work for us, not their corporate sponsors." Click here to read the full article in the St. Cloud Times.
