Public Campaign on the passage of DISCLOSE

Submitted by Adam_Smith on Thu, 06/24/2010 - 20:37

Just moments ago, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the DISCLOSE Act, legislation aimed at blunting the impact of the Supreme Court's decision in Citizen United v. FEC. Transparency is important, but Congress must do more to put elections back in the hands ofvoters. From Nick Nyhart:“Shining a light on who’s investing in our elections is important, but it is not enough.” said Nick Nyhart, president and CEO of Public Campaign. “Congress must go further and pass the Fair Elections Now Act which would change politics and make elected officials accountable to their voters."  “Corporations and lobbyists have owned our elections for too long,” continued Nyhart. “Members of Congress should focus on the interests of their constituents instead of political insiders. The Fair Elections Now Act will help us take back our country and our democracy.”
