57 House members voted to remove contribution limits
In the final debate in the House over the DISCLOSE Act, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) offered an amendment that would remove all contribution limits to federal candidates. As our friend Adam Mason at Iowa CCI said on the amendment: “It’s unconscionable that Rep. Steve King wants to give even more power to the corporate interests and lobbyists funding our elections,” said Adam Mason, State Policy Organizing Director at Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (Iowa CCI). “I doubt that constituents in Iowa’s 5th district think Rep. King should be spending his time allowing BP executives or Wall Street bankers to give unlimited sums of cash to political candidates.” Luckily, the amendment failed, but 56 of Rep. King’s colleagues voted with him to remove limits on the size of campaign contributions to Congressional candidates.
