Supreme Court Injects Chaos into Arizona Elections
Public Campaign released a statement on the U.S. Supreme Court order blocking the release of matching funds in Arizona."This case is only about one part of Arizona's successful system-the triggered matching funds program," said Nick Nyhart, president and CEO of Public Campaign. "We will continue to argue the merits of the matching fund system at every challenge, but it must be noted that this Court decision has no impact on the Fair Elections proposals now advancing in Congress."Mr. Nyhart was quoted in the Arizona Republic:"Candidates will have less of an ability to speak up about where they stand," Nyhart said. "It's not so much about what's right or wrong for the politicians, it's about the voters getting to hear more." Additionally, David Donnelly, national campaigns director for Public Campaign Action Fund, was quoted by the Washington Post: "We think this will throw the Arizona election cycle into chaos," he said. "There are sitting officials who have received public funds, including the governor. The court is preventing them from running the campaign they signed up to run."
