Attend "We the People: A Forum to Defend Democracy"

Submitted by Monica Rober on Wed, 04/14/2010 - 21:29

This Sunday, April 18 at 4:00 PM EST at SUNY-New Paltz, please join the Honorable Maurice Hinchey (D-N.Y.), and a panel of experts in the field of campaign finance reform, for “We the People: A Forum to Defend Democracy.” The forum will be on the recent Supreme Court decision Citizens United v. FEC, which overturned a century of precedent by now allowing corporations to spend unlimited amounts from their treasuries to influence our elections. Rep. Hinchey is a co-sponsor of the Fair Elections Now Act (H.R. 1826), which would allow qualified candidates for Congress the option to run using a public grant and only small donations. Other panelists include Margery F. Baker, vice president, People for the American Way; John Bonifaz, director, Free Speech for People; and Joan Mandle, executive director, Democracy Matters. Event Details: Date and time: April 18, 2010, 4:00 PM EST Location: SUNY-New Paltz, Lecture Center, Room 100 Click here to see a map and get driving directions. To RSVP or for more information, please contact anahatasun@aol.com Please join these wonderful speakers to learn how the Citizens United decision may impact our democracy and what solutions we have to address the influx of corporate money in our elections.
