Really Big Money Politics

Submitted by Monica Rober on Mon, 01/04/2010 - 21:57

The New York Times editorializes on the need to fix the presidential public financing system and urges that a public financing system be created for Congress as well."Mr. Obama made much of a promise to fix it, once elected. So, the time has come to fix it. "He needs to set a strong example for Congress and the status quo laziness of Washington and move convincingly for revival of the public option, which served the nation well. This would create pressure for a similar system of restraint by Congressional candidates now basted with special-interest money. As the lucre builds to critical mass, a public option for Congressional and presidential candidates becomes ever more vital."
