Bad Influence

Submitted by Monica Rober on Thu, 10/29/2009 - 15:07

Hearings in North Carolina on the operations of former Gov. Mike Easley's (D) gubernatorial campaigns are putting the spotlight on campaign cash."Easley's campaign stands accused of a coordinated effort with the state Democratic Party to subvert finance laws that limit donation limits. Further, the governor's campaign kitty may have been used to fund flights, vehicles and even repairs of his house. The overall picture is one of inattentive management at best and outright law-breaking at worst."The Daily Reflector suggests that public financing of gubernatorial elections may be the answer to eliminating temptation and influence peddling.
