Time to Retire Pension Politics

Submitted by Monica Rober on Wed, 09/30/2009 - 15:08

An editorial in The Albany Times Union praises Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli's (D) efforts at campaign reform and calls for public financing of comptroller races."Ultimately, though, Mr. DiNapoli can do only so much and will serve only so long. The Legislature should enact a more permanent solution and heed his call for public financing of comptroller races. Yes, candidates could forgo public financing and the restrictions that come with it in favor of taking big bucks from Wall Street. But after all the unfortunate attention Mr. Hevesi and his cronies brought to the comptroller's office, it's a good bet that voters will be keeping a closer eye on who's running for this office from now on. And the companies they keep."
