Lacking Limits

Submitted by Monica Rober on Mon, 08/24/2009 - 14:11

Public Campaign President Nick Nyhart speaks out on the lack of campaign contribution limits in Virginia in an article in the Washington Post."But most voters reject the idea that donors give such large quantities expecting nothing in return, said Nick Nyhart, president and chief executive of Public Campaign, a national group that advocates tight restrictions on private giving along with public campaign financing. "It's an open invitation to corruption," Nyhart said. "When someone can offer you huge amounts of money that can radically or substantially increase the chances of a candidate winning, it invites a kind of quid pro quo or a feeling that the person who receives that money might be indebted. It undermines public confidence in governing."
