Fair Elections Now Act Hearing Today

Submitted by Johnny Papagiannis on Thu, 07/30/2009 - 17:00

The Fair Elections coalition issued a press release announcing that the House Administration Committee held a hearing today on the Fair Elections Now Act (H.R.1826).  Testimony came from the bill's lead sponsor, Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.) and original co-sponsor Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.). In addition to Larson and Jones, the committee also heard testimony from Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine), Maine Speaker of the House Hannah Pingree (D), Connecticut elections administrator Jeff Garfield, Arn Pearson, vice president of programs at Common Cause, and Public Campaign President Nick Nyhart. “With the health care debate raging in Congress during the day, members of Congress should not be placed into the position of raising money from insurance and big pharmaceutical company lobbyists and executives at night,” Nyhart said. “We applaud Rep. Larson’s leadership and the support from so many members of Congress.” For the full release, click here.
