New York Times Editorial on New York Senate

A recent New York Times editorial criticizes the power struggle currently going on in the New York Senate and endorses publicly financed elections as a step forward that both parties can work toward together.

“…State Senator Dean Skelos, the Republican leader, and the Democratic Senate leader — whoever that might be — should be ready to work together. Their aim should not be to stall everything controversial, since a tie vote would defeat any bill anyway. Their role should be to make the Senate do its work.

"Republicans have promised reforms, and on Monday they made a modest start at cleaning up the Senate rules. But there is more to be done, especially creation of a new ethics commission and campaign finance reform, including public financing for the comptroller’s race.”
