The U.S. Supreme Court ruled today that it is unconstitutional for a state supreme court justice to sit on a case involving the financial interests of a major donor to his or her reelection campaign. Ruling 5-4 on the controversial Caperton v. Massey case from West Virginia, "the high court said that a judge who remained involved in a lawsuit — one filed against a company helmed by a generous supporter of the justice's campaign — deprived the other side of the constitutional right to a fair trial."MSNBC has the story here and Public Campaign's press release on the ruling can be found here.
