ATM Fees: Is Bank of America Using Bail Out Money for Political Contributions?

Submitted by Rick Bielke on Thu, 01/29/2009 - 16:38

Yesterday, Public Campaign, along with Change Congress, Democracy Matters, and U.S. PIRG, sent a letter to members of Congress calling for an investigation to see if Bank of America, AIG, and other recipients of billions in bailout money used those taxpayer dollars to send "large contributions" to any political organizations. The letter to Congress was generated in reaction to a story that appeared in the Huffington Post. According to the story, Bank of America hosted a conference call asking activists and other big corporations to persuade their clients to make large contributions to groups working against the Employee Free Choice Act and vulnerable Republican Senators who could help block passage of the bill. Click here to read the Huffington Post blog post on the letter that we sent to Congress.
