Voter Support Strong for Clean Elections: Poll
A new poll shows overwhelming support for voluntary public financing of elections with 69 percent of likely voters saying they would like to see such a system. Voters would like to couple this system with a ban on lobbyist contributions and a match of public money with small contributions. More results are available here. The strong backing for this public-financing system broke down nearly evenly among men and women, older and younger voters, across different regions of the country, along education lines, and by Republican and Democratic voters. Among all voters, 69 percent backed the voluntary public financing system, while 13 percent were opposed and 18 percent were undecided. When broken down demographically, the Clean Elections-style system saw support by 71 percent of men and 67 percent of women, by 71 percent of older voters and 68 percent of younger voters, and by 72 percent of Republicans and 69 percent of Democrats. In addition, 69 percent of voters said they believed the country need to change the way that elections are financed. The bipartisan poll of 1,000 likely voters nationwide was conducted by Lake Research Partners and Tarrance Group the week of November 3rd. These numbers demonstrate that the Clean Elections concept is taking hold nationwide. Please help Public Campaign continue the battle for Clean Elections with a donation.
