No Help

Submitted by Katie Schlieper on Thu, 07/10/2008 - 18:42

If Los Angeles ends up pursuing a Clean Elections law in the next year it will be without the help of the Pacific Palisades community council, which just voted down a motion in support of a full public financing option for city races. Pacific Palisades is a pretty wealthy area -- the Center for Responsive Politics records 1000+ contributions to candidates excess of $200 in 2008 alone -- so maybe they're not feeling so shut out by an election system that privileges those with cash. I have to say it's a little disheartening to read this particular story in the newspaper my own great-grandfather founded though!
