Local Option Clears Legislature

Both chambers of the Washington legislature have approved a bill that would allow municipalities to pursue Clean Elections laws to cover their own races. Referred to as a "local choice/local option bill" it lifts the prohibition against public financing of campaigns that was put in place in the early 90s. The bill now goes to the desk of Gov. Christine Gregoire (D) for her approval or veto.

I take exception to the U S Supreme Court's ruling that MONEY is a form of FREE SPEECH. Money has badly corrupted the entire election process. Money must not be permitted to distort election results. The Supreme Court's decision can be changed by congressional action and the sooner the better.
Cities and states all over America are deciding to take money out of politics by opting for Public Financing. This movement must be encouraged until Clean Elections cover the map of America. Such action will restore democracy to the people.
We must stop permitting our elected officials to be bought and owned by Special Interest Groups!

Clean election laws are a must in every state in the union and also on a federal level please support such laws.
