Corzine Talks Campaign Finance
In an interview with New Jersey's Record Governor Jon Corzine reveals his intentions to make ethics and campaign finance overhaul a centerpiece of his work in the coming year. Candid in his assessment that no perfect solution to the influence of money on elections and politics exists, he seems committed to making further strides on the road to a better system. Central to his plans is expanding the "pay-to-play" bans on contributions from government contractors. Other issues on the table for discussion in New Jersey include the banning of dual office holding, designed to thwart conflicts of interest, and of course further expansion of the state's Clean Elections pilot program. Corzine has shown his support for Clean Elections in the past and this year's solid results from the pilot project in three districts are further evidence that this program should be central to Corzine's overhaul efforts.
