Clean Elections Candidates Win in New Jersey

Submitted by Katie Schlieper on Wed, 11/07/2007 - 19:44

Many Clean Elections candidates in New Jersey have a reason to celebrate today after yesterday's elections. In the three districts where candidates were eligible to participate in the state's Clean Elections pilot program, all of the winning candidates ran using the system. Candidates for the state Senate and Assembly from the 14th, 24th, and 37th districts were eligible, and sixteen candidates qualified to use the program. After the votes were tallied last night, nine emerged victorious. In the 14th district, Bill Baroni won his race for state Senate and while Linda Greenstein and Wayne DeAngelo won their races for state Assembly. In the 24th district, Steve Oroho won his race for state Senate as did Assembly candidates Gary Chiusano and Allison Littell McHose. In the 37th district, Loretta Weinberg was the winning Senate candidate, and Gordon Johnson and Valerie Huttle won their Assembly races. All in all, a very successful outing for the Clean Elections program and further evidence in support of its expansion to more districts in the future.
