John Bonifaz and Jacob Soboroff, advisory board member and Executive Director, respectively, of the election reform project Why Tuesday? have been talking recently about Clean Elections programs as a part of their larger examination of what needs fixing with elections in the country. In this article at the TPM Cafe, which acknowledges that Clean Elections is getting a more receptive response than ever before in Congress, they look efforts in the 90s to enact public financing of congressional elections in Minnesota, reactions from the courts, and the legal climate for moving forward with a similar program today.
