State party committees are raising less cash over all then they did back in the days when federal party committees would transfer huge sums of “soft money” into their coffers. However, contributions from wealthy individuals are soaring. In 2006, the top 10 largest individual donors gave $25 million collectively; in contrast, in 2002, they gave about $9 million. Similarly, 13 business or special interest groups gave at least $1 million a piece in 2006, while just two such groups gave that much in 2002. Contributions from small donors also increased, from $4.7 million to $12.4 million in 2006. Read the full report here.
