Debates to Do, and Primaries Too!

Submitted by Katie Schlieper on Thu, 08/16/2007 - 21:09

That's the spirit! The Trenton Times takes on the opponents of Clean Elections, saying not only is the pilot program currently in its second cycle in New Jersey a great stride forward for more open, voter-focused elections but that the real win will be expanding the system to primary elections, where gerrymandering dictates the real battles are often fought.  Meanwhile, it looks like two Democratic Clean Elections candidates in New Jersey's 14th district are proposing debates with their Republican challengers as outlined the pilot program design. The debates were included in the law to encourage the spirit of the Clean Elections focus on candidate/voter contact and a focus on the issues ahead of fundraising priorities.
