Colorado Gets More TransparentSubmitted by Katie Schlieper on Tue, 07/10/2007 - 4:12pm.
Mike Coffman, Colorado's secretary of state, has this article in today's Coloradoan on his office's new policy whereby all candidates will be required to file their campaign finance reports online. Online disclosure increases the transparency of campaigns by making information about how campaigns are funded available to the public in a faster, more searchable format.
Coffman is also planning an overhaul of the website where campaign finance data is stored to make searching through the data easier and more straightforward for voters interested in who is supporting particular candidates and ballot initiatives. This is excellent news -- perhaps the U.S. Senate will take note and finally pass the electronic disclosure bill it's been sitting on for months.
