Candidate Loves Clean Elections
New Jersey Assemblymember Bill Baroni (R) is really excited about being a Clean Elections candidate. As one of the authors of the New Jersey Fair and Clean Elections pilot project covering three districts including his own, he talks with the Trenton Times about the change he sees in campaigning and contacting voters now that he is running Clean.Baroni, along with his Democratic challenger, have both qualified to run under Clean Elections by collecting between 400 and 800 $10 contributions (level of public financing is determined by the number of contributions collected) which has meant a lot of grassroots, candidate-to-voter contact: Baroni reached the milestone by holding a series of house parties in all seven townships within the district. "Not only was my team able to meet with countless voters in all seven towns in our district through our clean election campaign, but now we can continue holding meet-and-greets and walking door to door to continue talking with voters about the issues that matter most to New Jersey families," Baroni said. Exactly what the Clean Elections system was designed to encourage. It's fun to see the real changes happening in campaigning styles when the focus is off big money and on voters.
