On the Road in WV
I'm back in my home state of West Virginia for a few days meeting with state activists about their Clean Elections efforts. This morning, I did an interview with Sen. Dan Foster - one of the champions of the Clean Elections bills in the legislature. We talked for quite a while about his district, policy, and why WV needs this bill. He said, "this type of approach to campaigns would really have an impact on every aspect of public policy." He's right. Stay tuned next week for a full report on that meeting. After the meeting at the capital building, I met up with Public Campaign Field Director Jeannette Galanis for a coalition meeting. They've built quite a coalition here - the WV Council of Churches, AARP, AFL-CIO, and many more. We had some great discussions today about state politics and strategy for getting this bill passed. If you're from West Virginia and want to get involved, click here to find contact information for the state coalition. People are excited about Clean Elections here and we're going to be working with them to make it happen. And though you might not be able to tell, that's me in the picture on the right. I'm being overshadowed by the state house. We missed West Virginia day on Wednesday (it was the day the better Virginia went West, you know). But, I think it makes sense that we're here talking about strengthening the state's political system the day after we celebrated the creation of that system.
