Letter Urges Clean Elections for New York
Scott Lauffer pens a letter to the editor in New York's Press & Sun-Bulletin urging the State Senate and Assembly to take up Clean Elections legislation. The full text of the letter is below. Reform campaign rulesThere are bills in both the state Senate and Assembly that would provide for "clean money for clean elections." We desperately need this kind of campaign finance reform in New York. Our system of fair elections is broken; we are ruled by the party bosses and big money still buys elections. As far as voters are concerned, this idea has no party affiliation and should be a no-brainer. Other states, including Arizona, Maine and Connecticut, have already enacted their own versions of clean elections. Can we do it in New York? Call your state representatives and ask them if they will support using NO private money, not even their own, and agree to the spending limits of the CLEAN ELECTION law. Their answer will tell you if they are working for you or for themselves.Scott LaufferPort Crane
