New York is mulling improvements to its campaign finance laws, like changing the 4-1 match for small contributions to a 6-1 match (match applies to the first $175 of a contribution) and putting much stricter caps on donations by people who do business with the city.

No question this will bring opposition from many in the business community (the article in particular notes the real estate sector) but it's an admirable effort to even the playing field between wealthy candidates (or those with access to wealth) and those with popular support from less wealthy constituents.
