North Carolina's House Election and Campaign Finance Reform Committee approved a public financing pilot project for elections in the town of Chapel Hill, yesterday. The full House will have to approve it for it to go forward, but chances look very good. Read more here (last item).
With a public financing program already in place for judicial races, and legislative proposals to extend the system to Council of State and legislative races, North Carolina continues to be a leading state when it comes to reducing the influence of big money on elections through full public financing systems.
