Tools of Accountability
New York City Councilmember Gale Brewer, who represents the Upper West Side gave an interview to the Gotham Gazette in which she discussed how technology can help citizens keep an eye on their government, and mentioned an interest in studying the Clean Elections model of public financing as another way to promote transparency. The mention comes towards the end of the interview, where Brewer is asked whether there are other programs in other states that New York could benefit from in terms of promoting accountability between government and its people: Sydney: How does New York compare with other cities in its use of technology to monitor government and are there any particular models or programs elsewhere that you are interested in implementing or borrowing from? Gale Brewer: That would be a good question for an oversight hearing! We can ask representatives of states that have passed Clean Money Clean Elections laws to testify.
