Turning Anger to Action

Submitted by Katie Schlieper on Fri, 04/20/2007 - 20:06

Steve Hoffman of the Akron Beacon Journal offers this even-handed assessment of and argument for the Fair Elections Now Act introduced by Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Arlen Specter (R-PA). He sees promise in the policy, but notes the need to underline the ties between campaign finance policy, and action on issues that matter the most to voters. That's really, as Hoffman rightly argues, what's going to galvanize support behind public financing. After all, we're not in this to win a policy victory -- this is about changing the way we run our elections so that our representatives in government are free to be our best advocates be that for better health care coverage, cleaner air, or affordable alternative energy policies.
